Anybody out there use Firebird? It seems to have MANY MANY things over MySQL, the least of which are Stored Procs and Triggers. However, a good GUI (web driven or local) is extremely hard to find. I imagine that PART of the reason MySQL is so popular is because of PHPMySQL.

I'd have to agree with that statement. I actually think that Postgres is a superior db to mysql. But the web based front end for it came a day late and a dollar short and as such it's a lot less known.

Yeah... Firebird is the updated Interbase... It seems REALLY nice but lacks alot of management tools...

I've never used firebird, but it's a shame that more people don't know about about phppgadmin.
The frontend looks awesome, I like it much better than phpmyadmin.

I agree Cheryl - if people are familiar with phpMyAdmin - they'll LOVE phpPGAdmin - and again, PostGres is really a superior product than MySQL. I was introduced to PostGres when I was tasked with getting an installation of GForge setup for our local development. It's pretty snappy.

It also has many more features and personally, I think it is more stable and not as much as a resource hog.

you guys really like phpadmin?
I think mysql has nicer tools but not that, more like navicat or even the free mysql tools from their site.

Several companies offer front ends for the other dbs but hosting can be the issue.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of PHPMyAdmin, I'd rather just do the sql queries by hand. However, it is nice to have that set up so I can quickly access my db if I'm on another computer somewhere.

I love PHPMyAdmin - and PHPPGAdmin - they both are excellent tools for thier respective DB backends. When installing our GForge here, I would have been lost had it not been for PHPPGAdmin. I"m very comfortable with making the SQLQueries myself by hand, but these make is a lot easier for me personally. Ive used MySQL-Front before instead of PHPMyAdmin and it's good. But I just personally prefer PHPMyAdmin. Why? Couldn't really tell you...just a comfort issue I guess.

Nope - I tried the MySQL-Front first and used it till someone said to try PHPMyAdmin - been using it ever since - but I'll try Navicat since you recommend it. But I can tell you - I may love it, but since it's not free - I won't use it for more than the 30-day trial deal. We don't use MySQL at work, and PHPMyAdmin does what I need at home and as such, if the tool is not free then there's no reason for me to switch.

I'll also try the MySQL tools you mention as well.

yeah its not free but it was worth buying, just the datatransfer tools alone made it worthwhile.
