Is it possible to have one web hosting account and have several (unique) domain names (with different web pages).

For example, (Without having to buy 10 hosting accounts, and not have 1.cars.com, 2.cars.com, 3.cars.com etc...)

one hosting account
- www.lexus.com (own web page)
- www.ford.com (own web page)
- www.audi.com (own web page)
- www.chevy.com (own web page)

I was told by one of the custserv reps that this can be done.

Thanks!

Hello,

It can be done, but since we dont' support redirection to subfolders you would have to code the redirect yourself. Basically, all of the domains would point to the same IP address, and hence load the same index page, so your index page would have to have code that scans the domain that visitors' browsers are requesting and redirect based off that.

There are several articles in these forums about this sort of redirect in ColdFusion and ASP....in fact, the most recent is here:

Jamie,

Thank You! I'll check that link out.

Now, let me see if I understand this right. If a user types in www.lexus.com, it will go to the IP address index page, which contains this script, and then will send it to the appropriate sub-folder (in this case lexus.com). Right? Will the domain name still show up as lexus.com as the user typed in? Does the sub-folder have to be specific to the domain?

If someone typed in lexus.com and goes through what I said above...would the url end up being: www.lexus.com or would it be something like www.lexus.com/lexus (because of the redirect to the subfolder?)

When I buy the hosting plan, would I just not apply a domain name to it and just have the IP address?

Thanks!

The redirection is usually transparent to the user and it really doesn't matter if you associate a domain name to the account or not as all of them come with a dedicated IP, probably easier if you can refer to your account by the domain name then some numberic IP address.
