HostMySite,
I would like to see the capability to add SPF, PTR, and TXT records using DNS Administration in the Control Center. We have a several VPS plans. We recently sent a TXT record request to support and noticed a few weeks later that it was entered as a SPF record, which messed up our mail server reliability for a brief period. If nothing else, it would be nice to just SEE the records to verify accuracy. We have almost 200 domains that need various DNS records added. Hopefully, we'll see this capability soon, so that we don't have to send the requests to support. It would also be really nice to see a mass update function. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks, Ron |

We too had requested this feature over a year ago. We also wanted the ability to remove A records for old domains.
Supports response was that the "average customer" doesn't understand what a TXT or SPF record is, or may accidentally delete an A record not knowing what it does which is why they said they won't support that feature. We are a dedicated server customer, and HMS should at least offer such features to dedicated customers knowing that most dedicated server customers (and vps users) have a far greater understanding of such features |

You could always run your own DNS servers. It's rather simple, inexpensive, and you have alot of options whether or not you want to go with a Linux or Windows solution... but that being said, BIND is the bomb

He's right in that BIND is the bomb...but I see your point and agree with it. The fact of the matter is though that 99% of our clients won't use SPF/TXT records, and out of those about 90% would muck it up if given the chance, so we've left those type records as a 'support-only' feature.
That may change in the future as those types of records gain popularity, mind you. In the meantime, all we/I can say is that I'm sorry for the inconvenience. |
